Located prominently in the middle of East Main Street downtown is Rachelle’s, a beauty salon/ladies fashion boutique with East Texas flair. Owner Rachelle Fitch Thrasher flashes huge smiles to go with her red hair and warm personality as she greets customers.
“Hey, good to see ya, come on in” she says, and whether looking for a new hair-style or a new outfit people know they have found the right place. A Henderson girl through and through, Rachelle first worked as an elementary teacher before beginning her career in styling. The location of her boutique is historic, and has served as a women’s clothing store for decades under such names as Collegiate Shoppe, Mr. G’s, Something New and Nancy G’s. These days there are clothing labels from upmarket designers as well as more casual and less expensive offerings. Shoes and accessories, such as Brighton jewelry, are also part of the mix.
Rachelle divides her time from running the store to cutting and styling hair, all while booming laughter rings out among those in the close-knit store and salon. The salon is named Fox III after her late husband, Clint Thrasher, who used the call sign as a pilot with the U.S. Border Patrol.
Her significant other, Donovan Dickeson, is also a downtown merchant running a home design store named Donovans. The pair is well-known in East Texas, and people travel from near and far to shop at both stores.
“I’m blessed to be doing what I love in the town I grew up in” says Rachelle. “I think Henderson is the best-kept secret in the state.”
