Hormel has announced that it is acquiring Henderson based, Sadler's Smokehouse for $270 million.  The deal is expected to close in early March 2020.  Sadler's is a family owned business in Henderson, Texas and is Henderson's 3rd largest overall employer, and largest industrial employer.  Sadler's produces premium pit-smoked meats for retail and food service.  Hormel has already been a customer of Sadler's for over 20 years.  

Jim Snee, chairman of the board, president and chief executive officer at Hormel Food stated, “Sadler’s Smokehouse is a great company with an impressive history, talented team and an outstanding portfolio of on-trend products that resonate with consumers, customers and operators.  This is a very strategic acquisition for our food service business and it gives us another successful brand to expand into the retail and deli channels.”

As consumers increasing look for convenient meals, Hormel has the experience to help Sadler's grow its presence in grocery stores - especially as shoppers have been turning to deli sections and specialty meats.

According to the press announcement, Sadler's Smokehouse will continue its operations from its facility in Henderson, Texas, and will report to Hormel's Refrigerated Foods segment.
