CHRISTUS Health broke ground Tuesday on a new, state-of-the-art standalone emergency center in Henderson, expanding compassionate and exceptional care to the area.

Located just south of Wylie Elementary on U.S. Highway 259, construction on the 12,500 square-foot facility is scheduled to begin in the next few weeks, with a projected completion date of summer 2025.

With representatives from CHRISTUS, the City of Henderson, and Rusk County in attendance, CHRISTUS Good Shepherd President and CEO Todd Hancock emphasized the need for high-quality emergency care in rural East Texas.

“We have been blessed to work with some great people from Henderson and Rusk County to make this facility a reality,” Hancock said. “Every stakeholder we have talked to and presented to has gotten on board immediately, as we all realize that more access to high-quality health care is nothing but great for this community.”

The new facility features around-the-clock emergency services, including 17 total beds, 13 exam rooms, four triage rooms, state-of-the-art full-service imaging and onsite laboratory services.

About 40 associates will staff the facility, including board-certified emergency medicine physicians and nurses who specialize in serving the emergent needs of patients suffering from minor illnesses, urgent health conditions, broken bones and more serious injuries and illnesses.

The emergency center is in addition to the CHRISTUS Trinity Clinic location on Zeid Boulevard in serving the city of Henderson, Rusk County and surrounding communities.

The expansion to Henderson is the third announced expansion from CHRISTUS Health in East Texas, joining Mount Pleasant and Palestine.

“It is a major initiative of CHRISTUS to continue to identify areas where we can best serve the community,” said Chris Glenney, senior vice president of operations, CHRISTUS Northeast Texas. “This facility in Henderson and its ability to serve so many, fits in perfect harmony of our mission to extend the healing ministry of Jesus Christ.”

Preliminary site preparation is underway with Tyler, Texas-based HGR as the general contractor.
